Staten Island University Hospital will build a $1.5 million children’s emergency room at its Prince’s Bay campus.
While still in design, the new pediatric emergency facility will include five pediatric beds, a patient care station, a separate entrance, and registration and waiting area.
“With 35.8 percent of the borough’s more than 56,000 households domiciling youngsters under the age of 18, and Staten Island’s South Shore sustaining some of the city and state’s highest growth rates, an emergency department exclusively for children makes good sense,” said Donna Proske, Staten Island University Hospital executive director.
